Camp Wilmot is the newest member of Terracycle! Terracycle is an innovative recycling program that takes would-be waste products and “upcycles” them into bags, chairs, bottles, you name it. Anybody can collect items and Terracycle even pays for shipping to the nearest processing center. The best part? Mud Season is coming.   Our treasured Black Flies will soon need to be fed.  Book your spring retreat now!

Many thanks to all who have donated so generously to Camp Wilmot.  With your help, we were able to keep the camp open through the winter, offering a place to play and pray, to grow and worship, and to seek respite during the long nights and short, cold days. Winter may be over, but there’s never a wrong time to support our little camp in New Hampshire.

Event Planner, Outreach Coordinator, and Grant Writer Needed

For the past year, the Camp Wilmot Board of Directors has been prayerfully considering where to concentrate our energies as we look to the future.  We are well on our way to ACA (American Camping Association) certification.  A remodeled kitchen is in the works.  We have ideas and plans.  What we are missing is the means to develop these ideas and plans.  Like any non-profit organization, we rely on grants and sustaining gifts to keep us going.   We hope to begin a coordinated effort to stay in touch with our benefactors and friends in an exciting and sustainable manner.  We also would like to tap into the many grants and gifts available to our mission.  To accomplish these goals, the right people are needed.

We are in need of two or three people with time, talent, and interest to be part of our outreach and growth initiative.  If you enjoy running networking and fund raising events, feel called to support Camp Wilmot, and are not opposed to working without pay (aka volunteering), let us know.  We need you!

Along the same line, we are also looking for someone skilled–or even semi-skilled–and willing to research and write grants to benefit Camp Wilmot’s programming, educational events, local mission projects, and infrastructure development and maintenance.

Greetings,

God has blessed us mightily as we begin the 2012 season.  The staff and Board of Directors are filled with tons of energy and excitement about plans for the future.  Katrina Hill and Heather Waters, our new Resident Directors, are already making some pretty big waves.  Meanwhile, Chair Rob Heinze, and Vice Chair Jay Straughan, are settling into their new roles on the Board of Directors.

The 2011 season was truly a turning point in our history.  Under the leadership of Resident Directors Rachel Allen and Sarah Erni, guided by the clear-sighted vision of Chairwoman Rebecca Petersen, the camp we all know and love has been filled with a new life and energy that has just begun to take root.  Just as the seasons turn, Camp Wilmot weathered a dreary winter, and then new life began to spring up in 2011.  With our 50^th Anniversary, improvements could be seen throughout the camp.  The inside of the dining room got a fresh coat of paint and a new floor.  All the waterfront cabins were painted, and three got new roofs.  With the help of an AmeriCorps NCCC team, site improvements too numerous to mention here have given the camp a fresh face while still maintaining the look of a rustic camp in the hills of New Hampshire.  All in all, the future of Camp Wilmot is looking bright.

With spring fast approaching, we have some projects to complete.  We are converting to all stainless steel equipment in our food service area. A complete renovation of the kitchen is well into the planning stage.  We’re talking about a new floor, new plumbing, and new wiring.  The idea of running a toaster and the coffeemaker at the same time has our kitchen staff just tingling with excitement.  Look also for expanded programming ideas as we strive to fill every bed in every cabin every week this summer.  And then, the biggest project and number one goal of the year: full accreditation by the ACA (American Camping Association.)

Of course, and here is the part you’ve been waiting for, all these things cost money.  The summer months have a steady flow of cash coming in and going out.  To get the camp ready for the summer, we need supplies and materials. There are permits and licenses to be obtained.  Old, mildewed, and torn mattresses have to be discarded and replaced.  Toilet paper has to be stocked up, as do paper towels.  Promotional materials need to be printed so we can attract more campers.  We also like to pay the gas and electric companies when they send their bills.

As it stands right now, we would love to see an extra $3500 come in each month between now and the official opening of camp in July.  This is where you come in.  Yes, dear, loyal Camp Wilmot friends and supporters, we need your help.  Your tax deductible donation of $50, $100, $500, or more is needed now.  Help us prepare for the upcoming season, and to make upgrades and improvements for the years to come.  With your support we can move from merely maintaining the camp to making dreams come true.  Just to give you an idea of the dreams we have, consider these:  fully accessible bathrooms, dining hall, and cabins, winterized cabins (White Birch and Asper Inn), a year round conference center facility, a minibus, and paid, professional staffing.  These are just a few of the audacious ideas we have.  Let us know what you would like to see.
